GARY GERSON'S ALMA MATER NAMES A BUILDING IN HIS HONOR

TO RECOGNIZE A LIFETIME OF SERVICE

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — August 6, 2003 — Nearly 50 years to the day after he graduated, Gary R. Gerson , CPA, MBA, returned to the University of Florida in Gainesville this past spring to dedicate Gerson Hall, where generations of future accountants will learn their profession.

“This building is possible because of Gary ’s generosity and efforts in rallying others,” said UF President Bernie Machen at the April 10^th dedication ceremony. The ceremony was complete with a ribbon-cutting, guest speakers and a champagne toast.

Gerson, in turn, said that he is thankful for all that the university has given him through the years. “I’ve received more from the university than I have given back – not only a splendid education, but the people I met at UF have become the nucleus of my practice,” Gerson said at the ceremony. “I will never be able to repay the university.”

“They say the most important characteristic for success is feeling lucky,” Gerson said in closing. “I couldn’t feel any luckier that I do today.”

Gary Gerson graduated from UF in 1954 at the age of 20, having completed both a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in taxation in just four years. The following year, he received his CPA license – making him the youngest person at the time to have done so. In 1959, he founded the accounting firm known today as Gerson, Preston, Robinson & Co., PA.
